If You Like All 50 Shades OF Black, Wednesdaycore Courtesy Wednesday Addams Is Made For You https://ift.tt/7an5fHW

80 years ago, Wednesday Addams and the rest of the Addams family entered our lives through The New Yorker, when illustrator Charles Addams introduced us to this morbid family. Ever since, through different mediums like television, cartoon and films, this anarchic family has served as the perfect repellent to the white-picket-fence-loving-happy-family narrative we are constantly fed.

The latest Netflix adaptation by Tim Burton in true Burtonesque form, Wednesday, focuses on Morticia and Gomez’s dead-souled daughter, as she navigates her way at Nevermore—a school for outcasts. Even between gangs of vampires, werewolves and sirens—Wednesday, played by the talented Jenna Ortega, manages to be a pariah and enjoys every bit of it. While Tim kept most of Wednesday’s classic attributes like the death stare, poker face and general disdain for emotions intact, there was an almost natural evolution in the way she looked. Tim’s Wednesday is a Gen Z, she hates technology (which is odd for this generation) but her wardrobe and vibe definitely match the energy of the I-hate-everything age group she belongs to.

OG Wednesday is down-right intimidating, her trademark black outfit with peter pan collars and plait remained unchanged until Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood decided to switch it up for Jenna’s version of this iconic character. To show a trace of vulnerability, Jenna’s plaits weren’t as sleek and pulled back, instead, the curtain bangs added a bit of fun and softness to Wednesday’s strictly no-nonsense look. Talking about the wardrobe, Colleen didn’t just play with shades of black but also created a monochromatic palette with a touch of whites and greys. The style of silhouettes ranged from long skirts, culottes and oversized hoodies to matching separates and the pièce de résistance of the season—the vintage Alaïa prom dress. If like Wednesday, you like the grim palette, here’s how you can embrace Wednesdaycore.

1. Black Midi-Length Skirt And Jacket

Jackets and skirts have been Wednesday’s go-to this season, she was often seen wandering around the woods in daintily printed separates, trying to solve the crimes or committing them. If you’re looking to replicate the outfit, this Rajesh Pratap Singh jacket with a checkered long skirt comes the closest.

2. Black Polka-Dotted Dress

The trademark black dress with pointy peter pan collars is the easiest to recreate. The Kate Spade pearl-embellished collar dress is a more contemporary version of Wednesday’s.

Jenna Ortega practically lived in these loafers while playing the character of Wednesday. This comfortable and chunky version of this style of footwear will now be seen everywhere, thanks to the versatility with which it has been styled this season. 4. Black Vintage Alaïa Dress

The moment Wednesday walks down the stairs in this Alaïa dress with her braids in an updo, everyone collectively gasped and rightly so. Colleen Attwood found this in a vintage store in Bond Street London, just like Wednesday comes across this in an antique shop in the show. For all the anti-heroes who aren’t into looking like princesses at the ball, this is the look for you. Lucky for you, we’ve found a gothic frock, similar to the iconic Alaïa number for you to add to your cart.
